Depending on how your office network is set up, you may be able to take your desk phone home and use it there.
What you need
- An Ethernet (network) cable, or Wi-Fi set up by UnaDial support (see "Using Wi-Fi" below)
- The phone's power adapter
Steps
- Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the phone's LAN port.
- Plug the other end into your home router or network switch.
- Plug the power adapter into the phone and into a working outlet.
That's it. The phone is ready to use.
Using Wi-Fi
The Yealink T57W has built-in Wi-Fi. UnaDial support sets up Wi-Fi on the phone for you, so before you move it, call 833-651-DIAL or open a support ticket. For the best call quality, we still recommend a wired Ethernet connection when one is available.
Cordless phones (Yealink W73P) don't use Wi-Fi. The handset connects to its base station, and the base station plugs into your router with an Ethernet cable.
For other phone models, ask UnaDial support.
Important – 911: 911 may not work properly when your phone is away from the office, and emergency services could be sent to the wrong address. Call UnaDial support before you move a phone. You can dial 933 from any phone to hear its 911 caller ID and whether it's registered.
If something isn't working
- Calls connect but there's no sound, or calls don't ring in: your home network may be the cause. Check that your router doesn't use double NAT, and turn off SIP ALG in the router's settings. UnaDial can't change your home network, but we're happy to help your IT person or vendor.
- Your router is in a different room and there's no network jack near the phone: a powerline (HomePlug) adapter can carry the network over your electrical wiring. These are sold at office supply and electronics stores. UnaDial doesn't supply or support them.
- The phone doesn't work at all: call UnaDial support. Have the phone's MAC address ready. It's usually printed on a label on the back or bottom of the phone.
-
Calls work, but the sound is choppy or calls drop:
- Use a wired Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi.
- Run an internet quality test. A score below 4 on a VoIP quality (MOS) test means your connection isn't good enough for phone calls.
- Ask your IT person or vendor to turn on Quality of Service (QoS) for phone traffic on your router.
Good to know: UnaDial can't guarantee call quality on networks outside your office.
