You can transfer a call to a co-worker, to an outside number like a cell phone, or straight to someone's voicemail.
"BLF" buttons mentioned below are the one-touch buttons for co-workers' extensions, common on front-desk phones.
Warm transfer (talk to them first)
A warm transfer (also called an attended transfer) lets you talk to the person before you hand off the call. The caller waits on hold.
On Polycom and Yealink phones:
- Press the Transfer key.
- Dial the person's extension or press their BLF button.
- Tell them about the call, then press Transfer again to complete it. If they can't take it, cancel instead.
Blind transfer (send it straight over)
A blind transfer sends the call right away without talking to the person first.
Polycom, older software
- Press Transfer.
- Press the Blind soft key. No Blind soft key? Use the steps for newer software below.
- Dial the extension or press their BLF button.
Polycom, newer software
- Press and hold the Transfer button.
- Choose Blind from the menu on the screen.
- Dial the extension or press their BLF button.
Yealink
- Press Transfer.
- Dial the extension.
- Press Transfer again.
Transfer to an outside number
Follow any of the steps above, but dial the full 10-digit phone number instead of an extension.
Transfer straight to voicemail
This sends the caller to someone's voicemail without ringing their phone. Do a blind transfer and dial * plus their extension. For example, transfer to *101 to send the caller to extension 101's voicemail.
